Advent in Klagenfurt am Wörthersee

There is much to discover - between the romantic squares of the city centre and the soothing calm of the lake in winter: Austria's southernmost provincial capital celebrates the Christmas season in colourful diversity between Cathedral Square, Carinthia's largest Advent market in front of the town hall and contemplative concerts in the Landhaushof, one of the oldest buildings in the city.

Strolling through brightly lit streets, immersing yourself in the Renaissance courtyards in search of the right gift and enjoying specialities from the Alps-Adriatic region in the restaurants: this is probably the best way to experience the Christmas spirit. Families will find a wide range of entertainment options with excursion destinations such as Minimundus, the observatory, the city parish tower complete with viewing platform and the Wörthersee boat trip.

The boat trip connects Klagenfurt with the advent markets around the lake at weekends - as far as Velden and even up to the Pyramidenkogel by bus. Those interested in culture can enjoy a varied programme of events with the Art Nouveau City Theatre, but also smaller stages such as the Kammerlichtspielen. Galleries as well as concerts in the cathedral and concert hall round off the offer.
